Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Global Systems Institute wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Prof. Tim Lenton and collaborator Ash Ghadiali on a new Open Society Foundation funded project, ‘Addressing the New Climate Denialism’. The project aims to generate new data that expose the gap between current investment in climate finance and the projected costs of climate change and to inform policy on how to adequately resource transition in a manner that supports the advancement of racial equity. Internal Opportunitites 

Global Systems Institute Theme Leaders (This call is open to all faculty employed at Lecturer and Above) 

The Global Systems Institute are looking for Theme Leaders toward co-creating new research direction that links to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

‌We are looking for a theme leader for each SDG theme and 3 additional sub theme leaders for Life on Land and Life Below Water. The sub themes for Land will be Ecology/Biology, Biochemistry, Modelling and these same three for Water/Oceans.

Theme leaders will develop co-ownership of research and bring the GSI community and others together to build a truly systemic view of coupled global changes in the human social and economic sphere and the biosphere. Theme leaders will seek to draw research from their subdiscipline groups together under one of the UN-SDG themes and work with other theme leaders to generate new research directions and thought leadership. Theme and Sub Theme Leaders will be responsible for hosting within theme events and between theme events that connect theme leaders. These can include directed topical discussions, thought experiments, connecting people towards thinking about mega projects/ mega bids. This can take a range of formats such as directed lunch chats, coffee meetings, half day meetings, Sandbox events, fishbowl conversations online thought generation e.g., using things like Padlet, the choice of approach is up to the theme leader. Additionally, theme leaders will contribute to specific GSI events such as the annual retreat. Theme leaders will also report to the GSI management board and will aid with dissemination of opportunities.

What we will offer theme leaders

  • Ability to inform and drive decision making with the GSI Management Board. We seek and support bottom-up connections to grow the institute and create an environment in which all our research can thrive  
  • Funding and administrative assistance for events
  • Support to build links with industry, policymakers and other stakeholders
  • Funding to aid in the production of publications and /or other outputs that demonstrate thought leadership
  • Support towards development of co-created income bids
  • Access to Masters students and the ability to offer projects to help momentum of the theme
