Independent group leader opportunities in interdisciplinary science

Our annual call for applicants is now open!

Are you ready to develop your own research at the interface between the physical and life sciences?

We seek outstanding scientists whose research interests match LSI’s mission. Following an annual open call and interview process, we will support and mentor selected candidates to obtain external fellowship funding to establish their independent research programme.

You will have a record of accomplishment from PhD and post-doctoral research. Successful candidates will propose a research project that is original, ambitious and achievable. You should also outline the potential for synergy with current LSI research. Upon securing a fellowship you will establish your independent group in the Institute, benefiting from outstanding facilities, access to intra-mural funding, mentorship, professional development and opportunities to recruit undergraduate and postgraduate students.

To apply, please complete this application form and merge it into a single file along with:

  • A two-page summary of your proposed research programme
  • A two-page CV
  • A full publication list

Please submit your full application by email to infolsi@exeter.ac.uk with the subject heading FELLOWSHIPS. Applications will be reviewed by the LSI Science Committee in two batches with deadlines on 20th January and 31st March 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and to give a research seminar, and will have the opportunity to see our facilities and to discuss research interests with members of the Institute. Please note, this process applies to both internal and external candidates.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity informally, please contact the Institute Director Professor Austin Smith (austin.smith@exeter.ac.uk)
