The Living Systems Institute hosts Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Lisa Roberts for end of year visit

The Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Lisa Roberts recently enjoyed a visit with the Director of the Living Systems Institute Professor Austin Smith. Professor Roberts was taken on a socially – distanced tour of the award-winning building including the three state-of-the-art wet labs, microscopy and laser facilities, seminar rooms and open plan meeting areas in the 7,500 square meter collaborative workspace.   The pair discussed the LSI work and achievements in 2020 as well as the Institute’s key research themes and plans for 2021.

Vice-Chancellor Roberts said of the meeting “It was an absolute delight and a real treat to be able to visit the LSI to see for myself the facilities and meet some of the researchers in person.  The strength of interdisciplinary working shone through and it was a very good occasion to discuss future opportunities with Professor Smith.”

The LSI Director reinforced these thoughts “We were delighted to have the opportunity to discuss our work and highlights of the year with Vice-Chancellor Roberts.  It was a productive and exciting discussion which we look forward to continuing in 2021.”

The LSI leads cutting-edge interdisciplinary research into decoding biological complexity of living systems across scale.  The LSI is home to over 200 research staff working together on collaborative ventures in bioscience, engineering, mathematics and physics.

A wide variety of seminars and events are hosted by the LSI throughout the year.  The 2021 calendar currently includes the Physics of Life GW4 One Day Online Conference on 11 January “Sensing and Modelling Dynamic Protein Structures” and the EMBO Workshop “Long Distance Cell to Cell Signalling in Development and Disease” from 5-8 September.
