The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology at the University of Exeter, in partnership with Penta, launched their new course “Fungal Infections in Paediatrics”. Over 100 delegates logged in from across the world for the first session on 19th September. The interactive course will run on our recently upgraded virtual learning platform, providing space for students and faculty to engage and collaboratively solve problems around delivering new and improved treatment options for fungal infections in neonates and children worldwide.

“A very exciting week, as we launch the very first training course aimed at improving the knowledge about Fungal Infections in neonates and children, and how to manage these often serious and complicated infections in the best way. I am proud that together with support from Penta Child Health, the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases, and the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology this training course is made accessible to every health care professional in the world. And very much looking forward to meeting our first cohort of students during our interactive webinars.” — Prof. Adilia Warris – Course Lead

The training topics will be discussed via a series of expert video presentations and clinical cases, illustrated with tables and figures, and with links to major papers on the specific topic and websites. Moreover, live ‘Ask the Expert’ webinars are incorporated into each module, where delegates will have the opportunity to submit and discuss specific burning questions with the course tutors in real-time.

Led by internationally recognized experts in their field, many of whom are part of the Penta Fungal Infections Working Group and EPMyN network, this timely course provides participants with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and improve their ability to diagnose and treat invasive fungal infections in children and identify complications and early signs of infection. As well as that, the training offers a unique platform for cultivating new networking channels and further collaborations among all our participants.
