A new series of prestigious events with leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and academics from across the region and beyond is being launched by Exeter Science Park this Autumn.

‘The STEMM Cell @ Exeter Science Park – Inspiring Growth’ begins on Wednesday 27 September, with a diverse mix of speakers from science, technology, engineering, maths, medicine (STEMM) industries in its Autumn/Winter schedule of events.

Speakers will be discussing projects taking place in our region, as well as discussing topics to support business growth, including leadership, productivity and innovation.

Hosted at the Exeter Science Park Centre and open to all, the first speaker in the eight-part programme is Dr Steven Hepplestone, Physics and Astronomy lecturer at the University of Exeter, discussing ‘solving the world energy crisis with quantum mechanics’.

Speakers also include Timothy Nyahasha, Head of Administration for LIDL’s new distribution depot in Exeter; Imogen Napper, a Plymouth University student discussing the impact of plastics in the marine environment; and Ken Woods, Principal Conductor of English Symphony Orchestra discussing ‘leadership without words’.

Dr Sally Basker, CEO of Exeter Science Park said: “The South West is home to a host of leading innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and businesspeople, so we have created this platform to share the exciting knowledge and innovative projects that take place across Devon and beyond.

“Whether you’re interested in science or leadership, technology or business management, these presentations cover a diverse range of topics and we’re sure that you will come away with some real food for thought and be inspired by each of our guest speakers.”

The events are being run in partnership with the Exeter’s SETsquared incubator and are facilitated by KOR Communications.

Joe Pearce, Business Support Manager of the Science Park Centre said: “SETsquared Exeter is part of an enterprise partnership between five leading universities that aims to support start-ups and entrepreneurs in their ventures and nurture business growth. It is this ethos that the STEMM Cell events are representing and we’re excited to be welcoming some of the region’s inspiring and engaging speakers as they share their knowledge and advice.”

Tickets are priced at £10 per event, with a charity donation going to the Devon Community Foundation at the end of the term.

The full Autumn/Winter series of events includes:

• 27th September: Dr Steven Hepplestone, physics and astronomy lecturer at University of Exeter.

• 18th October: Josie Gough from Innovate UK and Andy Treen of Knowledge Transfer Network.

• 25th October: Daniel Honey, Director of HoneyBe Creative.

• 1st November: Imogen Napper, PhD student specialising in plastics in the marine environment at Plymouth University.

• 8th November: Chris Jenner, Development Manager at Transmission Investment.

• 15th November: Ken Woods, Principal Conductor of the English Symphony Orchestra.

• 6th December: Timothy Nyahasha, Head of Administration for LIDL Exeter.

• 13th December: Christmas social event with donation to Devon Community Foundation.

Attendees are welcome to arrive from 3:00pm to use the Science Park Centre facilities, with the informal networking due to begin at 5:30pm. Presentations will begin at 6:00pm prompt, followed by a Q&A session.

Light refreshments will be provided from 5:30pm, guest WiFi access is available and there is parking on site.
