Seedata has expanded the scope of its quality improvement programme for healthcare professionals.

Exeter company expands platform to improve quality of healthcare worldwide

A SETsquared client based at the Exeter Science Park Centre has expanded the scope of its quality improvement platform that has the potential to improve the quality of healthcare around the world.

Seedata, originally started out in 2010 by providing bespoke web software solutions to a range of clients but have more recently, worked with major stakeholders, to deliver a smaller number of innovative products to the mass market.

Life QI was developed by Seedata in collaboration with the South West Academic Health Science Network in 2015. Since its conception, the platform has spread across the NHS in England (where it has its most established network of users), through parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and is now utilised in 28 countries worldwide including New Zealand, the USA and Australia.

The platform revolves around improving patient outcomes by optimising patient safety and improving care and treatment. It is used by frontline health and social care professionals to plan, monitor and report on the progress of their safety and quality improvement projects. The system allows healthcare professionals to collaborate and manage a range of quality improvement projects including sepsis, acute kidney injury and pressure sores. The platform also supports national initiatives including NHS improvements to Maternal and Neo-natal services.

Life QI is about enabling patient care and experience to be the best it can be as Jason Williams, Business Development Director explained:

“The platform is geared around how our users operate, it’s an intuitive system providing usability and flexibility. We know that a clinician’s primary goal is to treat their patient and we aren’t looking to complicate that but rather allow them to easily capture vital data to drive improvements. By capturing this data we are enabling users to learn and improve patient treatment and care by sharing best practice and learning areas across the health and social care service. We hope that this will ultimately improve healthcare around the world.”

Jason continued: “In the UK, the NHS increasingly requires visibility throughout its Trusts and our platform allows questions to be answered in a click of a button that previously had no consolidated way of being answered (for example our system allows data to be drawn such as how many sepsis projects are being conducted at any one time). It is a vast repository of work in health and social care. In the UK alone it encompasses more than 500 NHS organisations with more than 2,500 active improvement projects.”

The growth and spread of the platform internationally has been supported by the Department for International Trade's, Export for Growth programme, which is a free support service for small businesses in the South West or England, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The team are now focused on launching a newly updated version of the platform to the global user base, spread across 28 countries.
