The Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology seeks new Chairperson

A business person with the skills, experience, and passion to help position Exeter as the region’s centre for science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) is being sought to become the new chairperson of the Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology (ExIST).

This voluntary role will involve leading a steering group which aims to optimise interaction between STEMM businesses, University, College, and schools throughout the area. The Initiative, founded by Exeter Chamber of Commerce, aims to increase awareness of Exeter as a centre for science and technology, to build relationships between education and business, and to encourage investment in the region’s STEMM organisations.

The person taking on the role will have a sound knowledge of the STEMM sector and will be expected to review and develop the Initiative’s strategy and activities including its public Quarterly Meeting events and the publication of ‘Insight’, ExIST’s dedicated science and technology print and digital magazine for the City.

The role is central to Exeter’s growing reputation as a centre for the science and technology community.  The City has seen considerable growth in these sectors in recent years, with the development of Exeter Science Park, the Met Office’s High-Performance Computing Centre, and the University of Exeter’s investment in its Living Systems Institute.

Robert McIlwraith, current chairperson of ExIST, said: “This is an exciting role for an ambitious and experienced individual.  The Initiative has achieved a lot since being founded in 2011, but now it is time for someone new to take the helm.  It has been a privilege to work with the City’s leading science and technology businesses over the past six years.”

Those interested in this voluntary role should send their CV with a covering letter to Lisa by Wednesday 16 November or visit the website for more information.
