Fiona Raffael

Research Development Manager


Fiona is the first point of contact for the College of Life and Environmental Sciences for EU research funding opportunities.

This involves dissemination of EU funding opportunities and training across the University, contributing and advising on the preparation of EU research funding proposals, including budget preparation and ensuring compliance with legal, financial and administrative aspects of the specific call type.

For successful funding applications, Fiona also negotiates the contract with the European Commission and provides ongoing advice to grant holders on their EU projects.


Fiona joined the University of Exeter in October 2009 and has pre and post award support experience. Previous roles include supporting academics in the Politics department with their grant applications to UK funders such as ESRC, Leverhulme Trust and DEFRA.

Fiona also worked as network administrator on ‘ELECDEM’, an FP7 Marie Curie ITN project coordinated by Professor Susan Banducci in Politics. More recently Fiona was Project Manager on the EPSRC funded ‘Being There’ project which is led by Mark Levine in Psychology.
