Research Development Manager

Role

Helen is the Research Development Manager leading on the University’s interactions with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

This role involves supporting academics and facilitating the development of large scale complex bids which may involve a number of project partners. Helen also manages Exeter’s NERC pilot Impact Acceleration Account funding and supports our Climate Change and Sustainable Futures Science Strategy Theme.

Helen is a member of the NERC Innovation Projects Assessment Panel.

Profile

Helen joined the University in 2009 as a project facilitator for the Peninsula Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (PenCLAHRC), then as project manager for Bridging the Gaps: the Exeter Science Exchange, an interdisciplinary EPSRC-funded project.

Prior to this, Helen spent nine years working for the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in a variety of roles, including managing NERC’s Peer Review College.

Helen has a PhD in marine microbial ecology and worked for six years as a postdoctoral research scientist at British Antarctic Survey, leading research projects on lake ecosystems in Antarctica
