Career
Fred has previously worked as an ocean forecasting specialist at the UAE MetOc Centre in Abu Dhabi on developing an operational forecasting system which integrates ocean, wave and atmospheric models to forecast maritime conditions around the Arabian peninsula.
This forecasting system was initially developed as a collaboration between Plymouth University and the UK Met Office, when Fred was the team leader for software development in the Plymouth team. The work also included field work in the Gulf of Oman to gather data for model validation.
Before specialising in marine science and environmental geospatial data Fred worked in software and application development focussing on user interfaces, text search backends and image processing for genomic fingerprinting.
