Overview

Julie joined the EU and International finance team in December 2020. She provides pre- and post-award support to academics applying for EU research grants, particularly Horizon Europe, and international funding. This includes advising on costings, providing feedback on applications, submission of applications to funders, negotiation of contracts and other post award agreements. She supports academics from the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, the College of Medicine and the Business School. 

Previously Julie worked in IIB as the Commercial Manager for VSimulators at Universities of Exeter and Bath (2017-2020), a £4.8M EPSRC infrastructure grant, supporting Prof James Brownjohn and the academics from the Vibration Engineering Section. VSimulators focused on creating cutting edge multi-disciplinary facilities to enable human factors research, combining a bespoke motion platform with virtual (immersive) reality for upto nine occupants. This project also involved securing additional funding to build the Engineering Research Centre at Exeter Science Park,  Simultaneously, Julie worked as the Impact and Partnership Development Manager focused on Infrastructure and Civil Engineering, supporting applications, collaborations and business partnerships around construction, net zero carbon buildings and infrastructure projects.

Upon joining IIB in 2016, Julie was the Project Manager for GelEnz, working with Prof. Stephen Eichhorn, initially at University of Exeter, and at University of Bristol, following the transfer of the project. This multi-disciplinary research project focused on turning starch and cellulose based waste into a gel drawing on scientific knowledge from University of Bath, University of East Anglia, John Innes Centre, Unilever and Croda

Julie studied at University of Exeter (2015-2016) as a full time student on the One Planet MBA at the University of Exeter Business School, graduating with distinction. Her final research topic explored the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to gender inclusion and diversity within an international technology company. She received a peer nominated award for being the most supportive student within her cohort of 40 students from 17 different countries.

In her spare time, Julie enjoys walking on Dartmoor, days at the beach with her family, horse riding, gardening and photography. She is a keen traveller having spent time in Colombia, Uganda and Japan.
