Heads of Discipline development

We offer a structured programme designed to support and develop new HoDs and provide continuing development opportunities for existing HoDs. Background, aims and more detailed learning outcomes are described in the HoDs background document.

Bite-size development

The programme features the following key topics (dates to follow where not shown):

  • Wellbeing and stress (completed)
  • Academic leadership January 19th 2018 1pm-3pm (invitations have been issued)
  • Managing people and performance February 28th 2018 1pm-3pm (invitations have been issued)
  • Finance surgery March 29th 2018 12.30pm-2.30pm (invitations have been issued)

Development for all HoDs

Networking events

New HoDs will be invited to join existing HoDs at our termly networking events where you can mingle, share experiences, ask questions or get help from HR and development professionals and hear from a guest speaker about useful topics relevant to your role.

Informal learning

We are keen that you have the maximum opportunity to grow and develop as an academic leader so would like you to share your useful insights, hot tips, interesting articles and activities through the Yammer social media group (or send to us at peopledevleopment@exeter.ac.uk). We will curate this informal learning and publish in the HoD resources page.
