One of the team will be a safety officer monitoring the teams time in the task and will remain outside the search area and the remaining three will be the search team wearing the described equipment, you will have a short 5 minute brief on safety aspects by the fire fighting experts who will then monitor you in your task to ensure you search safely. You will then have 15 minutes to complete the task during which you will be connected to a search guide line.

Ever wondered what medicinal plants might be growing in your local area, masquerading as common-or-garden trees, shrubs or ‘weeds’? Under the expert guidance of experienced herbalist Melanie Shaw, we will be led through Streatham campus’ familiar, yet on occasion surprisingly wild, places - stopping along the way to meet the many medicinal plants that inhabit our open spaces and hedgerows.

Herb Walk provided

Although we will be sticking mainly to the footpaths, it is recommended you wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. Some parts of the route provide little shade so please bring a bottle of water and a sun hat if necessary. The main purpose is to meet and learn about the many medicinal plants that inhabit our waysides, fields and hedgerows, so the walk will be very leisurely and we will only be covering a short distance. You may like to bring a shooting stick or similar to sit down when we stop to examine the plants and trees.

Children of 16 years of age or under must be accompanied by an adult.

Later in the day, we will convene to the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health for an informal ‘Armchair’ herb walk, where you will have the chance to examine some of the herbs seen out on the walk from the comfort of a chair or sofa and find out more about their uses and folklore.

Meet at the SID Desk at 10:30am to head off together for about an hour.

Join us in The Ram for Powerpoint pandemonium! Lecture lunacy!

Come take the stage yourself or watch colleagues from various departments test their improv skills by giving a lecture to accompany a short presentation they’ve never seen before! Prize for the best on-the-fly lecture, and plenty of fun for audience and competitors alike!

Fancy having a go?? We’ve already got a Prof. a Dr and PGTA up for doing these but a few more would be welcome. In order to make sure we have enough presentations, please book here if you would like to try an improv lecture - we will not have many extra so don't miss out!

 Competitors get a free drink!

If you have a presentation that is (or can be made) picture heavy that you think would be fun for our presenters to try and improvise, please email it to
