CiarĂ¡n Nevers

Anglican Chaplaincy Assistant

Ciarán is a recent Theology and Religion graduate, continuing his studies at the University of Exeter.

After a conversion story involving a disco, unrequited love, and a trip to Israel, he dropped out of a Natural Sciences degree at the University of Bath and was baptised by immersion in 2016 at St Stephen's Church, Bath. Returning to his hometown of Ipswich, he then worked at Toys R Us for a year, before moving to Exeter to read Theology and Religion.

Ciarán has experience in a variety of student-based faith communities. He was involved with the Evangelical Christion Union at the University of Bath during his time there, from which he helped grow and promote the Bath branch of Just Love as one of its first members. In Exeter, he has been a member of the Catholic Society, the Theology Society, and the Student Christian Movement alongside the wider Anglican Chaplaincy community.

Given the experiences he has had in these groups, he is a strong believer in ecumenical dialogue and supports expressions of faith that promote social justice and inclusivity. Alongside this he has a deep interest in different Christian spiritual practices, such as the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, meditation and prayer with nature, and dream interpretation.

During his time as an Anglican Chaplaincy Assistant, Ciarán hopes to continue the long tradition of the Anglican Chaplaincy being a place that welcomes all. Believing that we are all called to the Lord's table as we are, he wishes to keep the Chaplaincy doors open to groups traditionally marginalised and excluded from faith communities.
