One-off winter payment

We are making a one-off winter payment to undergraduate home-fee-paying students where we know that they have an annual family/household income of less than £30,000.

We have made a one-off winter payment to undergraduate home-fee-paying students where we know that they have an annual family/household income of less than £30,000.

This relates to your home family or household income assessed for the ‘maintenance’ elements of your student loan from The Student Loans Company. It is not your University accommodation shared household if that is different. There is more information about how household income is assessed on the Government website.

If this applied to you as of Friday 28 October 2022, you should have received the payment automatically, on Friday 11 November, to the bank account we have registered for you.

If you think you are eligible but didn't receive the payment please contact us through SID online here, and choose the dropdown 'Bursary Payments - Non Competitive Award'.

We are making a one-off winter payment to undergraduate home-fee-paying students where we know that they have an annual household income of less than £30,000.
We have an obligation to assist those who are most vulnerable to the increases in cost of living and so we took the decision to target our automatic £150 payment to students with an identified household income of less than £30,000 per year as a way to support this.

Unfortunately, we do not collect income data for postgraduate or international students. However, we know that these are extraordinary times and that some postgraduate and international students will also find themselves struggling financially. Financial support is available for these students through the Success for All Hardship Fund where an individual assessment can be made of the student’s circumstances and the level of support needed.

Financial support is available for students through the Success for All Hardship Fund.

This includes undergraduate, postgraduate and international students, degree apprentices and those who have received the winter payment, providing you are registered and studying at least 25% of a full time programme.

When you apply to the fund we’ll make an individual assessment based on your circumstances and a review of your supporting documentation. If successful, we’ll award you funds that contribute to the level of support you need. If your financial situation is affecting your ability to study, please consider applying to the Fund.

No, the one off winter payment and any funding you are awarded through the Success for All Hardship Fund does not need to be paid back.
