Scholarship Recipients 2021
Exeter Scholars is supported by a number of generous individuals who have made donations and scholarships available to programme participants who succeed in becoming Exeter Senior Scholars and choose to study at the University of Exeter.
Below you can find information about the recipients of our scholarships for 2021 entry.

The Sara and Nigel Tozzi Scholarship
Donors: University of Exeter alumni Sara and Nigel Tozzi (both LLB Law 1979)
Amount: Two awards of £7500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: Two high-achieving Senior Scholars who are from a low-income neighbourhood or who have qualified for free school meals or school bursary
Recipient One: Fahmida
Fahmida completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BMBS Medicine.
"This is an extremely rewarding programme and will undoubtedly help with life at university."

The Sara and Nigel Tozzi Scholarship
Donors: University of Exeter alumni Sara and Nigel Tozzi (both LLB Law 1979)
Amount: Two awards of £7500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: Two high-achieving Senior Scholars who are from a low-income neighbourhood or who have qualified for free school meals or school bursary
Recipient Two: Rowan
Rowan completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Exercise and Sport Sciences.
"None of my family went to university so I wanted to experience it as someone from a rural background."

The CCB Scholarship
Donor: Anonymous
Amount: Two awards of £10,000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who has accepted an offer to study with the Law School
Recipient One: Courtney
Courtney completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB Law.
"I always thought of university as the goal I was working towards through my GCSEs and A Levels. It was something I definitely looked forward to."

The CCB Scholarship
Donor: Anonymous
Amount: Two awards of £10,000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who has accepted an offer to study with the Law School
Recipient Two: Tegan
Tegan completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB English Law & French Law.
"This generous award will enhance my studies in many ways – buying specialist equipment for my specific educational needs and contributing towards trips to France to improve my language skills."

The Keen Opportunities Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumna Samantha Keen (BSc Biological Sciences (Zoology) 1989)
Amount: £3750 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving female Senior Scholar who is Black (Black British African, Black or Black British Caribbean, other Black background, mixed white and Black Caribbean, or mixed white and Black African)
Recipient: Anthonia
Anthonia completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BMBS Medicine.
"What I enjoyed most is the support that has been offered to me before and after joining university."

The Manchester & London IT PLC STEM Scholarships
Donor: Manchester & London IT PLC
Amount: Three awards of £5000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: Three high-achieving Senior Scholars eligible for Home fee status and studying within the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences
Recipient One: Luke
Luke completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BEng Mechanical Engineering.
"I chose to come to university to further develop my skills and passion within engineering."

The Manchester & London IT PLC STEM Scholarships
Donor: Manchester & London IT PLC
Amount: Three awards of £5000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: Three high-achieving Senior Scholars eligible for Home fee status and studying within the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences
Recipient Two: Sam
Sam completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Physics.
"I wanted to be in a subject area such as Physics, which will have a positive effect on the planet."

The Manchester & London IT PLC STEM Scholarships

Awarding Criteria: Three high-achieving Senior Scholars eligible for Home fee status and studying within the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences

Mia-Summer completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying MEng Engineering.
"I'm the first in my family to go to university, so was learning what I needed to do as I went along."

The Julia Davies Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Mark Waghorn (LLB Law 1988)
Amount: £6000 per year for the duration of the recipient's first undergraduate degree studies
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who is from a low-income neighbourhood or who has qualified for free school meals or a school bursary
Recipient: Shalayna
Shalayna completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BMBS Medicine.
"I have always aspired to attend university – and when I decided to do Medicine, it became a must!"

The Sir Steve Smith Scholarship Fund

Amount: £6000 per year for the duration of the recipient's first undergraduate degree studies
Awarding Criteria: The Senior Scholar in each academic college who has overcome the most barriers to progressing to higher education, as determined by the Exeter Scholars or Realising Opportunities eligibility criteria
Recipient (CEMPS): Lauren
Lauren completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying MPhys Physics with Astrophysics.
"I've always wanted to come to university and a deeper understanding of physics."

Harry completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying MSci Nursing.

The Exeter Scholars Alumni Award 2021
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tim Chatwin (BSc Economics & Politics 2002)
Amount: £3750 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar of BAME origin
Recipient: Tevfik
Tevfik completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Accounting and Finance.
"Exeter Scholars helped me a lot as it provided me an opporutunity to see what university life is like and whether it is the right choice for me. I also knew most of the buildings and facilities, so I managed to navigate around and settled into university easily."

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in Devon
Recipient: Angus
Angus completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Accounting and Finance.
"I chose to go to university because I think it will give me a strong understanding of the world of business, as well as developing my social skills."

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in Devon
Recipient: Amelia
Amelia completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Business and Management with Industrial Experience.
"I really enjoyed the experience Exeter Scholars gave me. It showed me how to be much more independent, which is useful for going to university."

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in Devon

Katie completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BA English.
"The programme helped me prepare for the style of teaching at university. This helped me ease into the first weeks at university, as I already had a strong idea of what was expected of me as a student."

The Class of 1978 Law Scholarship
Donors: University of Exeter alumni (LLB Law 1978)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who has accepted an offer to study with the Law School

Tom completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB Law.
"I wanted new experiences and to move somewhere new. The programme has made me feel more confident about my financial situation."

The Porter Scholarship
Donors: University of Exeter alumnus Andrew Porter (BSc Mathematics 1981)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who is studying a degree programme in the following academic colleges: CEMPS, CLES, CMH, or SSIS
Recipient: Catherine
Catherine completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BA Politics with Study Abroad.
"There's a plethora of benefits and there are no downsides to the programme. The benefits package is amazing and will support my academic life."

The Rachael Ruane Scholarship
Donors: University of Exeter alumna Rachael Ruane (Law 1999)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The highest achieving Senior Scholar who is also a verified care leaver

Tash completed the Realising Opportunities programme, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BA International Relations and Modern Languages.
"The programme helped me as it let me know what to expect for university, as I had no idea what higher education was about."

The Laura Piper Award
Donors: Mrs Dianne & Mr Ric Piper
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The highest achieving Senior Scholar who has completed the Pathways to Law subject activity strand, hosted by the University of Exeter, and has accepted an offer to study with the Law School

Mykenzie completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB Law.
