The opportunity to develop your employability skills and potential in your degree is paramount as you may soon be entering the job market. In this module, you will be guided through possible career paths and learn to identify employers’ needs in a changing job market. Practical sessions will help you to prepare for future employment. Topics covered include designing your CV, cover letter, the application process, improve your presentation skills, and interview techniques. All of these skills are vital when applying for your first graduate job or postgraduate degree. As well as the practical sessions, you will do a 40 hour self-organised work placement, maximising your employability potential and giving you the chance to experience a particular career.

• BSc Exercise and Sport Sciences
• BSc Human Biosciences
• BSc Nutrition
• BSc Psychology with Sport and Exercise Science
• BSc Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences

Level 2:

• BIO2106 Employability and Workplace Learning (15 credits)

The opportunity to develop your employability skills and potential in your degree is paramount to achieving your future career aspirations. In this module, you will be guided through possible career paths and learn to identify employers’ needs in an ever-changing job market, all with a view to helping you prepare for future employment. Topics covered will include designing your CV, writing cover letters, improving your presentation skills, navigating the application process and developing interview techniques. All of these skills are vital when applying for your first graduate job or further study. As part of this module, you will undertake a 38-hour self-organised work placement with the support of the Career Zone and Placements Team. This placement will maximise your employability potential and give you the chance to experience and explore a particular career.

Please note: This module is only open to students from Biosciences disciplines in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences on Streatham. It is not available to students on a 4 year placement year programme or students expecting to take BIO2001.

Considering a career in teaching?

The Graduate School of Education 'Learning for Teaching' modules are intended for students who are considering a career in teaching.

Each module includes a series of introductory and preparatory lectures and seminars, school experience, ideally undertaken during university vacations, as well as the opportunity to reflect on your experience towards the end of the module.
