If you are interested in taking any of these modules please contact your course administrator to check that you are able to do so, as well as the relevant departments for more information.

TESOL refers to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a term that has replaced TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). TESOL modules are particularly beneficial for students who are planning to work as teaching assistants on their year abroad, go on to do a PGCE or pursue a teaching-related career. Whilst some students choose to do TESOL over the three years, it is possible to do any module as a stand-alone option at the appropriate level. Please visit the TESOL webpage for help with choosing the appropriate module for you.

Teaching and assessment

TESOL is a taught module which requires 100% attendance and full participation in group situations. There is some commitment outside the timetabled input sessions for classroom observations, teaching practice and contact with international students. A wide variety of assessment types are used to help students develop transferable skills and enhance their employability. There are no final exams, and all course work is submitted before the beginning of the third term.
