Module description
You will work in a professional environment which may be a museum, county archaeological unit, or with a specific project. You will gain experience of the working environment and tasks associated with the institution. This module is specifically aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in archaeology and the heritage and cultural sector and have the relevant background and skills. The work is usually two days a week spread over two terms, although in some cases it is possible to work as a full block of time during the vacation. After training you will be expected to show initiative in planning and completing tasks.

This module will give experience of professional archaeological practice, requiring the deployment in the work-place, of skills and knowledge acquired at stages 1 and 2.

Syllabus plan
- You arrange your own placements; the convenor can be contacted for support if needed.
- Post-placement workshop (end of term 2 in year 3): discussion of placement work and experience as a basis for preparation of reflective report.

Re-assessment notes
It would not be possible to complete reassessment for the employer's reference.
Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be either deferred in the assessment or an extension may be granted. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.
Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be required to submit a further assessment as necessary. If you are successful on referral, your overall module mark will be capped at 40%.
