This module is for students selecting the ‘with proficiency in business and management’ pathway who are based outside the Business School.

BEM1040 is only available to NON UEBS students.

Module aims - intentions of the module

The module has two major aims:

  • to introduce you to major contemporary trends in our business environment and to their current and future implications for the management of organisations
  • to explore the major functions, objectives and challenges associated with managing contemporary organisations

  • Debates about major current developments in the business environment (eg: globalisation, technologies and demographic trends)
  • The current and likely implications of these trends for business and management in the UK and internationally
  • The major management functions, their aims and contemporary challenges
  • Debates about business ethics, diversity and inclusion

  • Major contributions to theory in the field of strategic management and the motivation of a workforce

Re-assessment notes

Deferral – if you have been deferred for any assessment you will be expected to submit the relevant assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be expected to submit the relevant assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of referral will be capped at 40%
