Module description

This module is aimed at developing yourself and others. You will gain knowledge on approaches to leadership and management, coaching and mentoring, learning and reflective practice, which you will be asked to apply in the workplace. There will be a particular focus on the value and application of reflective practice for your own and others personal and professional development

Module aims - intentions of the module

This module is aimed at developing yourself and others. You will gain knowledge on approaches to leadership and management, coaching and mentoring, learning and reflective practice. You will be asked to apply this knowledge to the workplace, evidencing how you have applied it to manage yourself and others. There will be a particular focus on the value and application of reflective practice for your own personal and professional development.

By sharing relevant and research-inspired content and using play and problem-based learning, this module has 4 main aims.

First, it aims to develop your knowledge on approaches to leadership and management, coaching and mentoring, learning and reflective practice.

Second, it aims to quip you to practice and evidence applying this knowledge to develop yourself and others.
Third, this module aims to will give you an appreciation and understanding of reflective practice that you can take forward into any area of your working or personal life.

Forth, by assessing this module with a presentation, it aims to help develop your presentation skills for both your end point assessment and your employability.

On successfully completing the module you will be able to...

  • 1. Present and apply knowledge of leadership and management tools and techniques and practise using and evaluating these tools in managing, leading and developing others (K18)
  • 2. Discuss the continuous development requirements and learning needs of others, and practise managing and setting goals for others. (S3, S19, B4)

On successfully completing the module you will be able to...

  • 3. Describe, evaluate and evidence the impact of coaching and mentoring techniques on team members (K24, S20)
  • 4. Discuss and practise applying reflective practice to inform personal and professional development, including identifying continuous development requirements and setting goals (B4)

  • 5. Discuss and practise presentation skills and methods (K1, S1)

Syllabus plan

Long thin module, with three 4-hour masterclass focusing on reflective practices, critical thinking, leadership tools and techniques, coaching and mentoring tools and techniques, personal and professional development of self and others.
Webinars to cement and extend learning from masterclass and discuss how it can be applied to professional and personal development.

ELE content to provide background reading, tools and templates to enable apprentices to experiment and find strategies that improve their working practices.

Re-assessment notes

Deferral – if you have been deferred for any assessment you will be expected to submit the relevant assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be expected to submit the relevant assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of referral will be capped at 40%
