Module description
This module aligns to the second method of end point assessment (EPA) and involves the production of a management research report together with a formal presentation. Students will develop a business report which demonstrates an element of substantial organisational benefit connected with a specific aspect of HRM. In doing this students will demonstrate the practical application of behaviours, skills, and knowledge. The management research report could be based on any of the following:
- The need to review and agree a change plan to improve a people solution within the workplace
- The continuous improvement review of a current process, service or product to ensure it is still fit for purpose and meets the current needs of the business
- The planning and design of a project that has strategic relevance and the potential to add value to the organisation
The list above is non-exhaustive, but the end point assessment organisation will sign off project proposals to confirm the suitability of the proposed management research report.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The key aim of this module is to help you to develop practical research skills, while also providing you with an opportunity to further your expertise in a chosen area of HRM. This module will hone your skills regarding problem diagnosis, data collection, and the development of recommendations applicable to operational HRM environments. Allied to this your studies within this module will also improve your competence in report writing, and presenting information to an audience.

- 1. Apply methods of measuring value and impact and types of analytical tools relating to creating value for an organisation as well as methods of evaluating opportunity costs including qualitative and quantitative metrics.

Syllabus plan
Taught sessions within this module will focus on communicating the structure and approach to the management research report including information on:
- Literature reviewing and analysis
- Research ethics
- Business research methodologies and designs
- Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
- Presentation of research reports
Final management research reports will include the following:
- An executive summary
- An introduction, including the scope of the proposed project together with any key performance indicators
- Aims and objectives
- How the proposed project outcomes will be achieved
- Comment on the validity of the methods of analysis, data interpretation and data presentation used
- Proposed implementation plan including communications and stakeholder plans
- Advice as to whether alternative approaches might be considered for problem resolution
- Recommendations and conclusions
The final document must include, in addition to the word count, an annex showing how the management research report maps to the KSBs that are being assessed by this method.
