Module description
This module is designed to support you to develop the knowledge, skill-sets and confidence needed to be able to set up your own business venture. Over the duration of the course you will come to understand the importance of Entrepreneurship and will learn how to plan, finance and launch your own business as part of a group.
Even if you are not planning to launch a business in the future, it is likely, whichever path you choose, you will encounter entrepreneurial activities in the form of other businesses or within the business you work.
This module provides you with a theoretical framework but also aims to encourage you to reflect on and develop your personal skills and analyse entrepreneurial experiences.
Module aims - intentions of the module
Entrepreneurship is a broad subject and, to provide the different perspectives of the topic, the module is based around the themes of: recognising opportunities and generating ideas, the feasibility analysis for a new business, developing an effective business module, industry and competitor analysis, writing a business plan, assessing the financial strength of the new business, building a team, finding funding, marketing and sales, IPR and the challenges of growth

Re-assessment notes
Deferral – if you miss an assessment for reasons judged legitimate by the Mitigation Committee, the applicable assessment will normally be deferred. When deferral occurs there is ordinarily no change to the overall weighting of that assessment.
Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall mark of less than 40%), re-assessment will be through an individual business pitch with question-and-answer session to include some reflection on student’s development of their entrepreneurial skills. Students will be informed of areas requiring review, rewrite and presentation improvement needs. If only one area (report or presentation) requires revision the re-assessment will take this into account.
