Module description

This first year module forms part of the LLB (Hons) Law with Professional Placement programme. This non-credit bearing module provides you with both the opportunity and support to develop the employability and personal development skills needed to explore career opportunities, and to source and apply for a professional placement. Delivery is through blended learning, with a combination of recorded lectures, e-learning tasks and workshops. Completion of all sessions is mandatory unless specified as optional.

This module is only for students taking the LLB (Hons) Law with Professional Placement programme.

Module aims - intentions of the module

This non-credit bearing module aims to prepare you for the tasks and activities related to finding and securing a suitable placement for the third year of your degree. The combination of synchronous workshops and e-learning tasks focus on career exploration, self-awareness of personal strengths, searching and applying for placements, and interview technique.

  • 6. locate appropriate services and resources to help with career planning and placement search.

Syllabus plan

Whilst the precise content may vary from year to year, it is envisaged that the syllabus will cover all or some of the following topics:

  • Introduction to LLB (Hons) Law with Professional Placement and the benefits of placements.
  • Self-reflection – appraisal of employability skills.
  • Research – considering your options.
  • Creating your CV.
  • Effective application forms and cover letters.
  • Interviews, placement search, and LinkedIn.
