Module description

Biological systems are inherently complex and are often studied on multiple ecological scales, from genes, to organisms, to whole ecosystems. Data generated through ecological and evolutionary studies therefore also come in different flavours and levels of complexity. In fact, there is a direct link between key ecological and evolutionary concepts, the way they are used to address pertinent research questions, and the data that is generated in the process. In this module, we will review the major contemporary questions in ecology & evolution and how data-driven approaches are providing new ways of finding answers to long-standing debates. Using real-life examples, we will investigate state-of-the-art approaches and technologies applied to study biological systems and learn how to exploit data to generate new knowledge.
