Module description

This course is designed to provide a general introduction to Chinese modern history and its connection with the world. This one-semester lecture-based course will cover the time range between late 18th century (high Qing period) and contemporary (People’s Republic of China), with a special focus on modern China since 20th century. By using films and other forms of visual arts, this course provides an easy approach for students to develop an interest to carry on further academic research. The basic layout of the course will follow a chronological line which aims to familiarise students with the key issues in Chinese history and put them in a comparative global context.
