Module description
This module will provide an evidence-based foundation to support the study of fundamental areas relevant to sport and exercise medicine. You will consider the latest research on factors limiting performance and aspects of injury risk and mitigation. Evidence will be applied to specific populations, including different age groups, sex and sport specialisation. You will learn about the application of this evidence by multi-disciplinary support teams to maximise athlete performance and to prevent and optimally manage sports related injuries and illnesses.
Module aims - intentions of the module
This module aims todevelop your understanding of the knowledge underpinning the support of sports participants. The foundation developed will equip you with knowledge and understanding to critically appraise approaches to the management of those participating in sport and exercise.

Re-assessment notes
Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be either deferred in the assessment or an extension may be granted. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.
Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 50%) you will be required to resubmit an assessment as detailed in the table above. If you are successful on referral, your overall module mark will be capped at 50%.
