This is a one-year Masters’ combining advanced Arabic language with Middle East Studies research. You will be taught by dedicated Arabic teachers, using tailor-made teaching material and a range of learning technologies, and you will have access to the University of Exeter’s state of the art language labs, seminar rooms and library. Following an intensive programme of study, you will achieve a high level of competency in written and spoken Arabic and learn to communicate effectively in dialect. This MA programme includes an extended period of study in an Arabic-speaking country, where you will immerse yourself in Arab culture and further consolidate your language proficiency.

This MA programme also includes a significant research element. Alongside intensive language training, you will be coached in research methods and critical analysis, and you will receive specialist supervision in a dissertation topic in the area of Middle East or Islamic studies. Your dissertation will be a substantial piece of research of publishable quality.

In addition to language training, research methods and the dissertation, you will also take 30 credits of modules on Middle East history, politics, religion, culture, gender studies and international relations.
