Our 'In Conversation' series aims to provide useful insights of topical higher education issues from a University perspective. The sessions are delivered by Dr Karl Devincenzi, School Relationship Manager, who is normally joined by key members of staff from our university community. Each session delves into different topics and aim to provide information and guidance for prospective students.

Following the announcement made by Ofqual on Monday 17th August regarding A-Level results, Karl and Katherine talk over what these changes mean for current applicants to the University of Exeter.


Episode 13In this weeks episode of In Conversation, Karl and Katherine reflect on last week’s A-Level results and the implications it has had for University admissions. This weeks episode also looks at the appeals process and the possible implications for current year 12 students.

Episode 10: In this episode, Karl talks to Mark Sawyer, Head of Wellbeing and Welfare based on our Exeter campuses about the new academic year and the support available from our wellbeing services to new students joining us. Episode 8*Accommodation* In episode 8, Karl speaks to Helen Whyte, Accommodation Office Manager based on our Exeter campuses, who talks about our plans for re-opening our residences for new students in September. Episode 7: In episode 7 of In Conversation, Karl is joined by two current students at the University who talk about their experiences of online learning and teaching. Episode 6With results day looming for IB Students, episode 6 of In Conversation focuses on an overview of the process from a university perspective, with insights into what students/applicants need to know. The episode provides information about the process and what comes next for students who will be receiving results on the 6th July.

Episode 5: In this episode Karl talks to Professor Mark Goodwin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement about the key challenges facing universities in the new academic year, the impact of Covid-19 on the student experience and reports on students wishing to defer entry in September. Gain an understanding of how the University of Exeter is preparing for the new academic year by tuning in!

Episode 4: In this episode, Karl and Katherine discuss the importance of league tables, the relevance of mission groups such as the Russell Group whilst also examining what Year 12 students can do to make informed decisions about their future.

Episode 3: Karl and Katherine focus on the forthcoming recruitment cycle for current Year 12 students and discuss issues such as what a post Covid-19 world could look like, the impact on Covid-19 on Year 12 students and what students can do to fill the information void currently experienced due to school closures.

Episode 2Katherine and Karl explore the meaning of student number caps and how current Year 13's may be affected by this, what the confirmation and clearing process may look like and look ahead to the start of the academic year for current Year 13 students.
