Working with post-16 and mature students

The Outreach Team focuses on building partnerships with schools and colleges across the UK to ensure that your students receive relevant guidance and advice to make informed decisions about their future educational pathways. There is a dedicated member of staff working with schools in each region across the UK.

We provide specific support, advice and guidance for mature students considering University which may be delivered online or in person, if circumstances permit. Please get in touch via outreach@exeter.ac.uk for more information.

Should you wish to make a request for attendance at an event or the delivery of any workshops and presentations at your school/college, please use our booking system to submit an enquiry.

Throughout the academic year we support school and college higher education fairs across the country for year 12 students. Our staff are able to provide students with information on progression from school/college to higher education and the University of Exeter more specifically.

If you are hosting a higher education fair at your school or college, please do get in touch with our team via our online booking system to enquire about our participation at your event.

Business Talks

Date and Time - Available for flexible delivery subject to speaker availability 

Location - In school and virtual (dependant on location)

Year group - Year 9-13

Dr Constantine Manolchev will deliver a Business talk to your students, with flexible options on content, such as an insight into Dr Manolchev’s own inspirational ‘path to business’, an explanation of how Business is taught at Exeter University and the transition from sixth-form studies, or a taster session on his own unique area of research – Business and Sustainability. Accompanied by a student ambassador the session will also provide insight into university life and study from a student perspective. Your students will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they might have on any of these topics throughout the session. The talk will be delivered in-person to schools local to the Penryn Campus and virtually to schools further afield.

Dr Constantine Manolchev is available on Tuesdays & Fridays but exact timings will depend on academic teaching commitments within the particular week of enquiry. Please enquire as to possible suitable dates. Spaces for talks are limited, so early booking is advised by contacting subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk

Careers Insight Workshops

Year group - Year 9-13

Are your students still unsure whether to go to university or whether they would be better off going straight into employment after college?  Or perhaps they love a subject but don't know what benefit they would get from studying it for another 3 years at university? This brand new interactive workshop has all the information your students will need to support informed choices about whether to study their favourite subject at university and the impact higher education can have on future careers. It is packed full of information on not only the career opportunities available when studying any of our degree courses, but also everything they need to know about the employability benefits that come with studying a degree.  Please contact subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk to find out more and request the resource or an in-person session.

University of Exeter Virtual Work Experience

Date and Time - Summer 2022

Location - Virtual

Year group - Year 12

Healthcare is about far more than ward rounds and patient consultations. The University of Exeter, in partnership with clinical research staff at the RILD, will be hosting a series of virtual workshops for Year 12 students interested in learning more about the research, the work, and the multi-disciplinary teams, behind public health. Students will have the opportunity to learn about vital processes in research and treatment development from expert clinical staff, and also to learn about how best to implement this experience in their applications – and future practice! – in bespoke workshops provided by University of Exeter team members.
These workshops will take place over Zoom, at varied dates throughout the summer of 2022.

Travelling Academics Roadshow 

Date and Time - Available for flexible delivery subject to speaker availability 

Location - Virtual

Year group - Year 9-13

This virtual roadshow will give your students an opportunity to hear a short talk from an academic or current University of Exeter student on a requested subject.  Speakers can provide expert insight on what it's like to study that particular subject at the University and/or a taster session, which could adapt to curriculum or focus on an academic’s specific research interests. To express an interest in arranging a talk in a particular subject area email the team at subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk 

The University of Exeter Outreach team is pleased to offer a variety of workshops and presentations designed to ensure that year 12 and 13 students are able to make informed decisions about their future educational pathways. We want to make sure that your students are aware of the variety of options available to them and are equipped with the knowledge required to make the next steps.

Our presentations are suitable for a variety of audience sizes and typically last between 30 – 45 minutes. To book a session please contact our team via our online booking system.

University of Exeter Study Buddies - Assignment Writing Online Course

Location - Self directed online learning

Year group - Year 12-13

Piloting for the first time, we are delighted to offer a small number of Year 12 & 13 students access to our new online Study Buddies course. With the aim of supporting students to raise their attainment during these important years of study, our new course has been deisgned to offer step by step guidance to academic skills and writing assignments. With simple and practical, easy-to-follow tips from starting and planning an assignment, breaking down the brief and how to write in an academic style; this 'study buddy' will be a vital resource students can refer back to time again throughout their time at school and college.   Please contact Catherine at subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk to find out more.
