School Direct@Exeter route
School Direct @Exeter route trainees attend the taught Masters level PGCE programme at the university during the Autumn term attending sessions alongside the core PGCE trainees. They are registered with the university and are eligible for student loans and training bursaries (eligible subjects only). They are based in school in September, before the taught course starts and in periods of non-contact time during the autumn term. They spend their time during the spring and summer terms either in their main placement school or in their second placement school (2nd placement will be a minimum of 6 weeks). These placements are arranged by the lead school. They also attend 5 individual seminar days back at the University.
It is a programme requirement that all PGCE School Direct@exeter trainees should spend a period of at least two weeks in state schools prior to starting their taught provision on campus (on Monday 23 September for Primary School Direct @exeter trainees and Monday 30 September for Secondary School Direct@exeter trainees). Prior to the taught course starting, you will spend September in your main placement school, where a pre-course training programme has been designed for you by your lead school.
