Dr Jeremy Metz

Jeremy started his research career in the group of Professor Sir Peter Knight in the Quantum Optics and Laser Science group within the Physics Department of Imperial College London after having completed a four year MSci in Physics.

Whilst finding that his PhD work was both stimulating and rewarding, he decided to pursue his parallel passion - to understand and explain the fundamentals of nature at a different level, and joined the group of Dr Ao Ma in the Department of Biophysics and Physiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

There, as well as working on modelling the protein interaction networks that regulate mitotic spindle dynamics, he started an image processing project aimed at bridging the interface between experiment and theory. Having initiated and led the image processing research efforts of the Ma group this led to the creation of several offshot projects and grant applications.

Jeremy returned to Europe to take up the post of Experimental Officer for Image Analysis in Biosciences at Exeter University. In that capacity, he is continuing to develop and strengthen these techniques and in turn analyse and model the resulting biological insights, to create and maintain a framework that provides a strong base for excellence in research.
