Head of Regional Impact

Role

Chris leads the Regional Impact Team in IIB. Focused on regional engagement, this team brings together key colleagues within Innovation, Impact and Business (IIB) delivering and supporting regional economic development, including:

  • The Marchmont Observatory, providing economic analysis, intelligence and support with strategic planning for local growth, working closely with LEPs.
  • IIB Cornwall develops and maintains strategic relationships with the University’s strategic partners in Cornwall, developing projects and programmes for funding, including the Environmental Sustainability Institute.
  • Peninsula Innovations Ltd - the company that manages the Innovation Centre at the University of Exeter and now responsible for the management of the Science Park, supporting building the community of businesses which exist in and around the Innovation Centre.

Profile

A labour market economist, Chris joined the University of Exeter in 1999 as the founding Director of the Marchmont Observatory, a research centre supporting evidence based policy and practice in the field of skills and learning. She has worked closely with economic development and skills agencies, supporting the development of plans and strategies at local, regional and national level. Prior to joining Exeter, Chris had held senior management roles in a range of national organisations.

Formally Director of Strategy and Communications at the TEC National Council, Chris led the Council’s strategy and policy development working closely with government on the development of skills and economic development policy. She held similar posts in the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and the Association of Metropolitan Authorities.
