Southwest of England

Southwest of England

Large numbers of graduates choose to stay in the south west both for family reasons and to enjoy the lifestyle in this part of the world. In reality, there is a more limited range of graduate jobs than in many other parts of the country and the largest employers in Devon and Cornwall are in the public sector eg the NHS, universities and local government. There is very little large industry in the region and a larger proportion of the population work in small businesses than in any other part of the country. Teaching is a popular option chosen by many graduates who wish to work in the region but again, there is hot competition for teaching jobs here in the south west. Currently Exeter is expanding as a centre for financial services and the recent relocation of the Met Office to the city has increased prospects for scientists in the region.

This page collates information about many of the major employers in the region, as well as other information sources that may be useful for those seeking work in the region. Please note that the list is far from exhaustive and job seekers should be prepared to do additional research.
