Regular Service Times: Michaelmas Term 2018

This page explains the pattern of worship at the Mary Harris Chapel, which this term is a little complex...

For a simple chronological list of services and events taking place this term, please see the Mary Harris Term Card for Michaelmas 2018.

A quick guide to services

  • The services listed here are only held during term time.
  • You don't need to be a person of faith or a member of the University to attend; everyone is very welcome – students, staff and members of the public.
  • Services are in the Anglican (also known as Church of England) tradition.
  • We are blessed with a wonderful Chapel Choir who sing Evensong on Wednesdays, and at Choral Eucharists.

  • Sunday 30th September is the only term-time 5th Sunday of the month in the 2018/19 academic year. On this date there will be a Connect@MaryHarris service at 7pm – this will take the form of an ecumenical liturgical supper held within the Chapel by candlelight.
  • On Sunday 7th October (a 1st Sunday):
    • there will be a special Choral Eucharist from 11am - 12.30pm to mark the Chapel's Diamond Jubilee year. Those wishing to attend this service are advised to book – this is not compulsory but it will help us to get an idea of numbers. • the Chapel Choir will be joining the choir of Exeter Cathedral (in the Cathedral) for an Orchestral Evensong service from 4pm - 5pm.
  • Sunday 11th November (a 2nd Sunday) is Remembrance Sunday. On this date:
    • there will be a Remembrance Service led by the Rev'd James Mustard, Canon Precentor of Exeter Cathedral, in Northernhay Gardens at 11am, at which the music will be led by the Chapel Choir.
    • at 7pm in the Mary Harris Chapel the Chapel Choir will be singing a performance of Fauré's Requiem, which will include an act of remembrance.
  • There will be no service on Sunday 16th December (a 3rd Sunday).

If you would like a prayer but are unable to attend, you can request one to be said for you or a loved one by contacting the Chaplain, or by pinning a note to the prayer board at the back of the Chapel.

We also have a book at the back of the Chapel where you can write comments or prayers, and a votive candle stand.
