I think if I hadn’t contacted ‘Think Try Do’ then at the moment I’d still be thinking it’d be nice to start a company.

Encouraging entrepreneurship through Exeter’s ‘Think Try Do’ programme

Exeter’s ‘Think Try Do’ programme aims to build on the start-up ambitions of Exeter students, giving them the chance to develop enterprise and employability skills, as well the opportunity to start their own business. The programme provides training, guidance and support, as well as being able to offer funding opportunities to promote and enable entrepreneurship in Exeter.

Santander has supported the programme since it started, helping Exeter to embed entrepreneurship across the University. The impact of the ‘Think Try Do’ programme is far reaching as the skills the students learn can be applied throughout their life and career after leaving Exeter. For example, students learn skills such as creativity and innovation, self-confidence, decisiveness and communication and networking skills.

Santander’s support ensures we can offer our students resources, facilities and mentoring pathways at all stages of their startup creation.

Nathan Bostock, from Santander, visited the Streatham Campus in April and was given an update in person on how the ‘Think Try Do’ scheme is going. He heard about the growth of the whole entrepreneurship agenda and Exeter’s future vision, as well as the role Santander have played in supporting it so far.

Current student, Duncan Lyster, recently met Nathan and the team to talk about how the ‘Think Try Do’ programme has benefitted him. Duncan was able to build two prototypes for his wooden surf board company thanks to the project’s support.
