The Rt Revd William Ind (DDiv)
The Rt Revd William Ind, commonly known as Bill, was born in 1942. He was educated at the Duke of York’s School in Dover, followed by the University of Leeds and the College of the Resurrection in Mirfield.
He was ordained as a deacon in 1966 and a priest one year later. After spending some years in north west London, he moved to Basingstoke in 1973 as Team Vicar. Here, he spent 15 years building up a parish from very small beginnings. In 1984 he became Honorary Canon of Winchester before being invited to become Bishop of Grantham in 1987. He took on his last role, as the 14th Bishop of Truro, in 1997.
As Bishop of Truro, he was always visible, even in the remotest parts of the Diocese which extended out to the Scilly Isles. Highlights of his time in Cornwall include his radical review of the life of the Diocese of Truro entitled ‘People of God’; his blessing of the Eden Project and his appearances in the BBC series An Island Parish.
