Web accessibility statement for the KxWelcome accommodation application portal

The University of Exeter is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies solely to the KxWelcome accommodation application portal.

The University of Exeter is responsible for this service, which is run by Kinetic Solutions Limited. We want as many people as possible to use the portal. That means you should be able to:

• Change colours, contrast levels and fonts.
• Zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen.
• Navigate by keyboard.
• Use speech recognition software.
• Listen using a screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations:

1. The following issues relate to content and configuration and are being addressed by the University:
   • some images do not have alternative text that clearly describes their purpose or content (1.1.1).
   • some headings are presented as paragraphs, and prices are unnecessarily structured as lists (1.3.1).
   • some links are only distinguishable by colour (1.4.1).
   • link text is not always consistent across the site (3.2.4).
   • some form fields do not have clear labels explaining what information is required (3.3.2).
   • some icon-only buttons do not have clear labels to explain their function (4.1.2).
2. The following issues relate to core system functionality managed by Kinetic Solutions:
   • some text and visual elements do not have sufficient contrast, which may make them difficult to see (1.4.3).
   • some parts of the site cannot be used fully with a keyboard (2.1.1).
   • it is not always clear which element is selected when navigating using a keyboard (2.4.7).
   • some menus and expandable elements do not clearly indicate whether they are open or closed (4.1.2).
   • some links, such as social media icons, are hidden from assistive technologies (4.1.2).
   • some buttons and interactive elements are too small or too close together to be easily selected (2.5.8).
   • forms do not always clearly identify errors or indicate when information is required, and form labels are not always consistent (3.3.1 & 2.5.3).

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 11 May 2026.

The website was last tested between 7 and 9 April 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA. Key user journeys, including application, offers, and arrivals, were tested on a replica site using the Browserstack Accessibility Testing tool.

The technical report was prepared on 29 April 2026.
