Employer Engagement

Ask an Alum

Ask An Alum is a simple way to connect University of Exeter alumni with current Exeter students, recent graduates, and those interested in applying to the University of Exeter to answer their careers questions via a short email exchange.

With over 30,000 current students and thousands more recent graduates we are always seeking alumni volunteers to share their experience and careers information about:

• their job roles
• working for certain organisations or as an entrepreneur
• employment in their chosen industries and sectors
• living and working in different towns, cities and countries around the world
• how they have used their degree during their career

To learn more, contact the team at AskAnAlum@exeter.ac.uk

  • Alumni can register as a volunteer by completing the Ask An Alum Alumni Registration Form
  • The team create a profile for each alumnus which is then added to a searchable database.
  • Applicants to the scheme can search the database for alumni who match their career interests.
  • If an applicant choses you, their message will come directly to you via email. (At this point the applicants will not be able to see your email address.)
  • Once you respond to the applicants message, they will see your email address on any emails you send.
  • Applicants will ask you their careers questions and you can expect a short email exchange.
  • The Ask Alum Team will be in touch to collect feedback on your experiences.
  • You can contact the Ask an Alum team at any time at AskAnAlum@exeter.ac.uk for help and support.
  • Ask An Alum is a flexible, ad-hoc virtual volunteering opportunity
  • Help someone at the beginning of their career by sharing your career experiences
  • Develop your information and advice giving skills
  • Reflect upon your own career achievements
  • Gain an insight into current student life
  • Make a future professional contact
  • Give back to the University of Exeter
