Exeter Clinical Trials Support Network 2021

EcoWeb Trial opens for recuritment 

The the pan-European ECoWeB Project, lead by Professor Ed Watkins, is a study to harness smartphones to improve mental health and wellbeing in young people.

BRACE Trial opens for recuritment 

BCG Vaccination to Reduce the Impact of COVID-19 in Healthcare Workers (BRACE Trial), Lead by Professor John Campbell. This exciting Clinical Drug Trial aims to assess the effectiveness of a BCG vaccination vs. Placebo in participants working in healthcare settings

Exeter CTU has put in place a number of measures to ensure the ongoing safety of trial participants and the well-being of our staff, as well as to minimise the burden on our NHS colleagues, during this challenging period.

Siobhan Creanor

Has been appointed Professor in Medical Statistics and the new Director of the CTU. Siobhan will start Monday 2nd March 2020.

Sarah Dean

Steps down from her post as Interim Director the CTU, but continues her role as Professor of Psychology Applied to Rehabilitation and Health.

Growth in The Clinical Trials Unit

We now currently have 22 trials within the CTU. 12 of these are in set-up, 7 recruiting and 3 are in follow-up. In addition to this, Clinical Research Facility (CRF) work is also being carried out.

Research Excellence Framework (REF)

Papers are currently being collated within the CTU that have been published or are likely to be in press by Dec ’20. This will highlight the world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) work carried out by staff in the unit.

Rod Taylor

Has recently stepped down from his post in the CTU as Co-Director, but will continue his role as our senior statistician until Apr ‘20
