Role
Jim is Head of Commercialisation in the Enterprise and Innovation Programmes Team within Exeter Innovation. His team supports academics and researchers at the University of Exeter generate through commercliastion and entreprenurial pathways such as licencing and venture building.
Profile
An experienced innovation commercialisation professional with over 15 years venture creation experience. Having taken his own ideas to market, he now works with colleagues at the University of Exeter and SETsquared Partnership in addressing climate, environmental, social and technological challenges through entrepreneurship and research commercialisation.
This includes early stage commercialisation strategy, strategic design, intellectual property management, investor and strategic partnerships, venture building, licencing, contract negotiation, investment readiness and funding.
University of Exeter spinout portfolio companies and researchers are addressing important challenges in support of the University 2030 Greener , Healthier, Fairer mission.
Jim studied geography and biology at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2003. After a short spell working as a social science researcher at the NHS, he has spent the last 10 years setting up and running a number of small enterprises in Cornwall. His sector experience includes tourism, hospitality, retail, ecommerce and product design. He has a particular interest in sustainable and ethical business practice.
Jim joined the University of Exeter in February 2016.
