James is responsible for managing the Centre for Future Clean Mobility (CFCM) based at Exeter Science Park. www.futurecleanmobility.com This new and exciting research group is at the cutting edge of reducing Co2 emissions across a number of sectors. In 2020 CFCM was awarded £2m in funding from the Heart of the South West Local Economic Partnership and is now providing transformational research outcomes across sectors such as marine, aerospace, agritech, rail, off-highway and defence.

He identifies opportunities for impact and partnership development, bringing together internal teams and building external partnerships to develop proposals. Additionally, James develops long-term strategic partnerships between the University and regional, national and international stakeholders.
James held several roles within international business development prior to working for the University of Exeter.
Between 1999 and 2011 he held a wide variety of roles within SWERDA based around sector development and international investment. As their International Investment Manager he led all the European Inward Investment (Foreign Direct Investment), building key relations with a range of high profile investors including Toshiba, Vestas, and Airbus, resulting in several large investments for the South West.
James has an in-depth knowledge base and experience in aerospace, ICT and clean technologies.
