2026 Alumnae Group visit to Haldon Belvedere
Tuesday, 12 May 2026 at 18:00
On Tuesday 12 May the Exe-X Alumnae Group has organised a private visit to the Haldon Belvedere memorial tower in Dunchideock
Event details
The Haldon Belvedere , also known as Lawrence Castle, is one of the only surviving buildings on the Haldon estate, built by Robert Palk in the 18th century. It has the most outstanding views of Devon, and on a good day, also of Dorset, Dartmoor and Somerset. It is not open to the general public at present but occasionally for private functions and organised visits. With luck the weather in May will be fine and we will be able to go up to the roof to enjoy the views, and hopefully the rhododendrons should also be in bloom! Refreshments will be available at the end of the visit.
The Haldon Belvedere is located between Dunchideock and Doddiscombleigh, next to the Haldon Forest Park, 6 miles south of Exeter, and can only be accessed by car, cycle or on foot. Unfortunately there is no public transport access.
There are 10 spaces available in the Belvedere private car park, but there is a public car park at the end of the drive, a short five minute walk to the Tower. This car park is extremely popular however and spaces are at a premium, so we have a limited number of tickets available for those coming in single occupancy vehicles, but more available to those who can bring multiple people with them.
Please note: Visitors who want to visit the roof will need to be prepared to climb three flights of (99 spiral) steps.
To attend, please book your place here.
