About the workshop:
An obvious career path for many PhD students and postdocs is to become a university academic. But the day-to-day workings of this job are rarely discussed, making it very difficult to figure out if this job really is right for you. At this workshop, you will find out what a lecturer does from day to day, allowing you see what this job entails and to ‘peek behind the curtain’ of how decisions are made in higher education so that you feel more prepared to land your first permanent job. With this knowledge, you will be better prepared to decide if this career path for you, and well-equipped to enter the UK academic job market. Tailored for PhD students and postdocs, this half day workshop will be a mixture of delivered content, Q&A, and facilitated discussions. If you want to get a flavor of the workshop, please do have a look through some of my blog posts: https://gavinbuckingham.wordpress.com/workshops-for-early-career-academics/
