Event details
As part of the Hornby Scholarship cohort this year, we are preparing to share our practical insights around the topic of Teacher Agency, and we would value your presence and constructive feedback to refine it before we give our official presentation at the IATEFL Conference this April.
Abstract: In this presentation, we examine how educational practice in TESOL can be enhanced through practical knowledge shared among teachers themselves. The session thus focuses on real-world experiences that illustrate how acknowledging teachers as primary sources of expertise can potentially enable them to act as catalysts for change within their own contexts. Drawing on narrative accounts from Hornby scholars, we explore how pedagogic practices are adopted and adapted to promote both self- and peer-agency, and discuss the key factors that may support or hinder this process. Finally, we share practical insights into grassroots capacity-building and reflect on future directions for decentring expertise.
We look forward to seeing you there and engage in a meaningful discussion in this topic!
