Abstract
Artificial intelligence offers major opportunities to improve how we understand, predict and treat mental illness, but strong predictive performance alone is not enough to deliver clinical impact. In this talk, I will provide an overview of my work using multimodal clinical, neuroimaging, biological and electronic health record data to disentangle heterogeneity across mental disorders, identify clinically meaningful subgroups, and predict prognosis and treatment response. I will discuss examples spanning psychosis and depression, before considering the challenges involved in moving AI models from research settings into real-world clinical pathways. I will conclude by outlining what I see as the next priorities for the field, including prospective validation, clinical utility, implementation, governance and the responsible integration of generative AI into mental healthcare.
We ask everyone attending not to make any recordings or stills (photographs) of any part of the seminar and protect one another’s privacy.
Participation in the online seminar will be taken to indicate acceptance of these terms.
