This is the first book of the new edition of Cornish Studies, now edited by Garry Tregidga. The third series of Cornish Studies seeks to continue the work of the Institute of Cornish Studies in promoting a greater knowledge and understanding of both contemporary and historical Cornwall. It encourages a comparative and interdisciplinary approach which is open to new perspectives, democratic scholarship and community engagement. Papers in this introductory volume relate to a broad range of topics including archaeology, archives, folklore, Film Studies, history, Cornish language, literature, photography and politics.

Cornwall & The Great War is the third volume in the third series of Cornish Studies. This series seeks to develop the ongoing work of the Institute of Cornish Studies (ICS) in promoting a greater knowledge and understanding of both contemporary and historical Cornwall. It encourages a comparative and interdisciplinary approach which is open to new perspectives, democratic scholarship and community engagement. There is a particular emphasis on thematic volumes and the dissemination of the findings of conferences and projects associated with the ICS.Marking the centenary year since the armistice of World War One, this edition focuses on the broader aspects of War Studies with specific reference to the Cornish Experience. Reflecting the multiplicity of the Cornish Identity, this study explores a range of topics; from the popular response to the outbreak of war, literary texts and figures from the period and several developments on the ‘home front’ and life in Cornwall between 1914 and 1919. Building on the growing body of research relating to Cornwall during The Great War provides new perspectives from an interdisciplinary approach to one of the major historical narratives of the twentieth century.
