Joanie Willet

Joanie Willett is co-director of the Institute of Cornish Studies, and has considerable expertise in rural economic development, and Cornwall’s socio-economy.  She leads the Nature Recovery and Regional Development (NaRReD) project looking at how rural regions in the UK can develop nature recovery economies, and is a co-investigator on the Critical Minerals Challenge Centre, where she focusses her work on addressing skills gaps in our new mining opportunities, ensuring that local people are able to enter the sector.  This draws on insights from her book Affective Assemblages and Local Economies explored how people respond to changing economies, looking at Cornwall and South West Virginia (US) to consider how people find and access work; and on her Shared Prosperity Funded Future Skills project examining career journeys and hiring practices in Cornwall.
