Kate Neale

Kate Neale studied ethnomusicology at Cardiff University's School of Music, where in 2019 she completed her doctorate which was also cosupervised at the Institute of Cornish Studies. This research focused on the transfer of Cornish Christmas carolling repertoires and traditions to diasporic communities in South Australia and California with migrating Cornish miners. While Cornish diaspora, music and culture remain primary interests, through these lenses she pursues broader questions around the ongoing development and adaptation of heritage narratives, and what the cultural articulation of the past in the present can reveal about identity formation and community construction. She has published and presented her research in the UK, USA and Australia. She works with the ICS on a range of initiatives, and also on other projects with voluntary organisations and groups focusing on community music in Cornwall.
