About this course:

This in-person workshop will introduce participants to theories, examples, and the practical experience of using creative methods as part of their research practice.

Notably, it will focus on creative methods as supporting the understanding of research, data, and analysis itself, rather than simply as a non-academic format to disseminate research findings.

The workshop will be a mix of presenter-led discussion but with an opportunity for hands on experience to have a go at thinking about your own research through a variety of creative methods on offer.

Learning outcomes:

As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:.

- Understand what creative methods can bring to research, across a variety of disciplines.

- Identify the opportunities afforded by creative research methods.

- Consider how creative methods might be useful in your own practice.

- Reflect on the practical experience of thinking through your research using creative methods.

Who should attend this course:

This activity is for Research active staff and would be particularly useful to Early Career Researchers who are interested in exploring their research through creative methods, whether they have extensive or no experience in it.

The workshop will be run by Dr Cordelia Freeman, a senior lecturer in human geography who researches abortion and reproductive justice in Latin America.

Cordelia has worked on a number of co-produced creative projects as part of her research practice including graphic novels, a children?s book and a documentary.

Preparation is not obligatory but you are welcome to reflect on any aspects of your research, findings, problems or questions that you would like to explore through creative methods.

MAKE YOUR MARK - Research staff peer to peer development - This session is being delivered as part of a new pilot scheme of research staff peer to peer development titled `Make your Mark'.

The facilitator is kindly giving up their time voluntarily and willingly sharing their expertise to help the wider researcher community.

You will be expected you to attend for the whole session and for ease of administration, attendance registers will be taken at the end of each session.
